About the Director

Antoinette Greer – Executive Director

Antoinette is a native of Los Angeles who grew up in the inner city's Watts-Willowbrook area.

She is a breast cancer survivor and a Co-Founder of My Sister My Friend Breast Cancer Support. Diagnosed at the age of 40, while residing in Long Beach, California. She underwent a modified radical mastectomy, six months of chemotherapy and twenty-six treatments of radiation. It was during this time that she learned the women in her community faced marginal challenges in areas such as: access to care, cultural competence and overall survival of the disease. One year post treatment she gathered together with three other survivors and formed an Affiliate Chapter of Sisters Network. An African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization recognized nationally for helping women within their communities, later, becoming My Sister My Friend Breast Cancer Support in 2006. She sought to take charge of the needs of women treating for breast cancer in her community that these women might not slip through the cracks and re-enter the mainstream. The program includes a social worker for case management and a professional counselor.

She is a volunteer, Patient Advocate and spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. A strong collaborator for services such as navigational screening to lay and vulnerable populations. She is a former Counselor for the Spirit Project with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, a volunteer to St Mary Medical’s Centers Community Benefits and Outreach Staff. A recipient of the Phenomenal Woman Award presented by the NAACP Long Beach Affiliate, the “John Lea Award” for community service, the “Patient in Courage Award”, from the American Cancer Society, Partners in Education Award from Compton Unified Schools and several other superior performance awards from various entities regarding the spirit of excellence in her work. The group acts as current Co-Sponsor of Body & Soul; A Wellness Forum. She has sat on the Peer Review Board of Susan Komen’s Los Angeles County Affiliate.. She currently supports women that are referred to the group by clinics and hospitals throughout Los Angeles County. She has developed various educational outreach projects and programs within the group that foster meeting the individual and basic needs of survivors and in support of early detection.

She is a former member of the American Business Women’s Association (Diamonds of South Bay-Long Beach) and has authored her first book 'Ask Antoinette; A Columnist Collection of Q & A'. This book answers the many questions that face patients battling cancer today.
